On tuesday evening after a failed trip to the Kampung Ali malaysian canteen (NB its closed on tuesdays) for a tasty bowl of Laksa(get cooking) my new favourite noodle soup, we ignored Raoul Duke's advice and headed straight into bat country - The wonderful Hanging Bat beer cafe on Lothian. If you love proper tasting beer, including some of their very own brews, and amazing americana influenced comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by great art - by the talented Eddscape!(ahem) then this is the place. It also boasts coffee from Brewlab and an impressive selection of gin. I satisfied myself with a bowl of the house brisket chilli and some spicy wings and washed it down with a couple of schooners of wanderlust weisbeer.
Fed and watered we headed round the corner for our evenings entertainment - Neu!Reekie!'s #UntitledLive at the Central Hall in Tollcross. This was a whole evening of spokenword, animations, vjing and music. The venue is a beautiful period hall complete with large upper tier and giant organ. We headed along to catch the headliners YoungFathers and were treated to so much more with a live support from Finitribe, complete with labcoats, mirror ball and visuals, and
Andy Weatherall, complete with wide brimmed hat, on the decks.
Finishing their tour with a hometown gig Young Fathers were absolutley brilliant. Parked next to the speakers, I danced for their whole set, which for me can be described as simply beautiful noise. These guys are so much more live and definlety something fresh and original.
After all this we were back home and tucked up under the duvet by midnight.
