ABOUt

I generally don't draw things

that move, apart from clouds, which I draw a lot and the odd bird. I like to draw things that show - the passage of time; the beauty of a moment; the majesty of presence.I love sharp lines, bright colours, rough textures, patterns and a little humour.

Urban, industrial, residential and rural scenes all feature

in my work. I am always on the look out for inspiration and with my camera as my viewfinder I am constantly snapping views, skies and textures which I use in my art.

I really enjoy mixing mediums together. In my digital work I often scan my pencil drawings, which I colour on the computer before layering with different combinations of effects and photographic textures. In my most recent paintings I did pen drawings over acrylic and gloss paint backgrounds.

Over the years I have also created a whole range of "MadeUp" posters. Inspired by film, music and books these prints incorporate the wonderful world of fonts and are filled with local trivia, history, pop culture references and puns.

I work from real life and for this reason much of my work is Edinburgh-centric.

My inspirations include Pop Art, 20century advertising posters and Oriental art (including calligraphy, painting and woodblock prints), particularly Hokusai. â€‹My style together with my influences often results in a retro feel to my work.
