It may be the 10th of june but yesterday felt like the first summery day we've had in Edinburgh this year! So it was a perfect excuse to skip the studio for the afternoon and pretend to be a tourist. We took a leasurley walk up easter road through the hill side park on london rd and up the steps to Calton Hill - The setting of my film poster of the same title "Calton Hill"(pictured) a zombie blacksploitation creation based on the rather obscure "Sugar Hill" check out the trailer - its awesome!
As well as being a beautiful viewpoint looking over the whole of Edinburgh and beyond, Calton Hill boasts an 18thC. observatory complex - a nauticle tower - (Which you can climb to the top of for even better views, which we did and took a tourist selfie) - "Edinburgh's Disgrace", actually called the National monument which is a giant row of grecian styled coloums, its nick name due to the fact that this Athenian copy was never finnished - and an independent art gallery, The Collective Gallery - which has been serving Edinburgh for 20 years! Now housed in one of the domes of the Observatory. We of course perused the art, walked around the old buildings, unfortunately closed at the moment, studied the city from our elevated position, critiqued the various roof gardens - Edinburgh council yours are rubbish! - and lay down in the sunshine for a while.
We just had enough time time to leisurely walk down the hill and stop for a quick pt and a sneeky bowl of french fries (very tasty & they come with paprika mayo, mmmmmm :) in one of my favourite bars - The Safari Lounge - All in all a very succesful stint of skiving.
